Paul Baldowski is a writer, roleplayer and husband - a split role that leans heavily towards the lattermost, with smatterings of the others interspersed. He has spent the last twenty years roleplaying, watching short-lived TV series, and reading books at a speed equivalent to an asthmatic ant carrying some particularly heavy shopping.
He has written or contributed to several books in the PARANOIA roleplaying game series from Mongoose Publishing - including the main rules, Crash Priority, Service, Service!, STUFF and the whole of The Underplex (bar some much appreciated snippets from the Traitor Recycling Studio).
Paul Twitters as boreders, where his nonsense is not necessarily confined to Fight Klub or gaming. He also Boos on occasion.
Yesterday I got my package. When I got home from work a Priority envelope sat on the dresser just inside the front door. This delivery provided a pleasant surprise and a positive one at the end of a long day at work.
I have only had a chance to remove the plastic wrapper and work through the cards. Good to see I managed to secure some good rates like the Hijackers’ Weapons gear. Now I have to some time reading through and familiarising myself with the mechanics. Yes, I could have gone through the card only, but there’s something different about the learning process when you do it with cards in hand. That tactile connectivity to the game seems to make a difference.
So, this weekend I’ll take a closer look and start with some basic deck building. That done I can co-opt the kids into having a game and learning the rules for themselves.
Good times…
Happy to say that the kinks have been worked out in the process and that my order is shipped. Now, I just have to sit tight and wait for the delivery. A couple of weeks may never have felt quite so long!
I’ve comfortably reached the point of exasperation now. Having placed two orders with different payment types, both have been inexplicably rejected. I fear that someone may be trying to tell me that Fight Klub might just not be my game!
I appreciate that there is some kink in the system fighting against me, but that doesn’t improve my mood. All I know is I want to get a hold of some cards and the Store keeps refusing to sell them to me. I’ve lost a week to these mysterious errors, when the cards could have already been on their way.
If only I’d got a Kilo to play with from Game ‘09!
“We are sorry to inform you that your Fight Klub order #5123456789 is on hold because your credit card has expired or you have completely mistyped the number on the card with your big fat sausage fingers.”
Well, nothing runs smoothly in this world, does it? I’ll try again…
I’m prepared to undergo the whole experience so I can feedback to Decipher with reality backing me up. Just what is getting into Fight Klub for the first time really like?
So, I have already played a demo and liked the mechanics of the game. Yes, the event itself left something to be desired in regards to engaging new players; but, I want to see what Decipher offers.
I have placed my order for a Kilo of One - and that’s the progress for now. I looked at the Locator feature on the Decipher.com web site, but it’s depressingly unhelpful and looks frankly out of date. I don’t think I’ll have much luck playing Fight Klub outside of my own house or a chance meeting at a game con.
Patience young padawan, yeah - right?!
